Based in Nagasaki, Japan, Nagasaki Sanyo is an established veteran in the wood waste grinding business. With numerous years of experience under their belt, they possess a fleet of Vermeer Tub Grinders (TG) that aid them in organic wood recycling since 1997. These include the TG400A, TG525, TG400ATX and the latest addition to their range of equipment, namely, the TG5000 Tub Grinder.
Branches, logs, tree stumps, grass, bamboo – these are the materials obtained from gardeners and landscaping companies that Nagasaki Sanyo handles in their daily operations. Using tub grinders, these wood wastes are converted into beneficial end products such as wood chips, shavings and mulch. Subsequently, they are then sold to livestock farms with cattle at USD $11/ m³ and used as a form of animal bedding.
Breathing new ‘life’ into the grinding process via their recently acquired TG5000 Tub Grinder
Having utilized their existing machines, the TG400ATX for 7 years and the TG525 for 8 years respectively, Nagasaki Sanyo decided to procure a new Tub Grinder. This was especially so for the TG525 which has been used for a total of 10,837 hours and they believed it was time for a change.
Why did they choose the Vermeer TG5000 Tub Grinder?
After evaluating various factors, Nagasaki Sanyo made the choice to invest in the Vermeer TG5000 due to its tub cover design as well as its ability to facilitate easier feeding, less bridging and slipping as compared to their previous machines. Not to mention that with an engine horsepower of 540 hp (403 kW), it allows for greater volumes of end products to be produced in a shorter amount of time. The broader diameter of the TG5000 tub also meant that it could accommodate materials of greater length, thus opening Nagasaki Sanyo to various application possibilities.
How is the Vermeer TG5000 Tub Grinder being used?
To achieve different end products with specific needs, Nagasaki Sanyo employs both primary grinding and secondary grinding methods. For instance, primary grinding is utilized in the processing of bamboo poles and transformed into mulch, compost, livestock bedding or biomass feedstock/boiler fuel. Through a combination of a rotary grapple and chain saw, bamboo is fed into the tub in a vertical manner, thus permitting better visibility and greater efficiency.
Operators can see the feeding process more clearly while simultaneously taking advantage of gravity and reducing the probability of jamming. As a result, more end products can be generated quickly and efficiently.
In fact, according to Nagasaki Sanyo, they were able to process 94.3 m³/hour worth of bamboo with a 50mm round screen. To top it off, the duplex drum in the tub grinder also ensures that the bamboo are cut thoroughly and ground into consistent chip sizes, hence increasing their overall value.
Asides from that, Nagasaki Sanyo also makes use of secondary grinding to produce fine chips for animal bedding. It is a procedure whereby ground wood chips are fed into the tub for further grinding to attain finer wood chips end products. As a substitute for conventional straw bedding, these fine wood chips-based livestock bedding is cost-effective and easy to maintain. Through the help of a wide cutter
and 20mm or 25mm round screen, Nagasaki Sanyo was able to produce fine wood chips for animal bedding purposes. By filtering the wood chips via the round screen, uniform and consistent chip particle sizes can be obtained while removing any possible contaminants, hence ensuring their quality. In addition, some Vermeer grinder screens are also reversible which allow for longer product life and usage.
How has the TG5000 helped their work process?
Ever since Nagasaki Sanyo has incorporated the TG5000 tub grinder into their range of equipment, they have experienced a 1.3 times higher production rate of wood end products and overall increased work efficiency. The regulated conveyor belt in the Tub Grinder also reduces the amount of end products spillage and keeps the processed materials steadily moving so that more new material can be fed and grinded constantly. As such, more end products can be created faster and with ease.
In response to the increased work productivity, Mr.I Yamaguchi, the Managing Director of Nagasaki Sanyo has commented that he is “very satisfied with the machine production and durability. It is well designed, high quality and he is confident in its grinding capabilities.”
